Kostanjevica na Krki has every right to use its full name, since the oldest part of the town is located on an island in the middle of the slow-flowing Krka River. The town is sometimes also called the “Venice of Lower Carniola”; the name stems from the fact that Krka often flooded the town, which meant that the movement through town was only possible with the help of a boat.
